Nova Scotia Solar Case Studies

Real projects from across the province with verified system sizes, NRCan-modelled production, NS Power rate-adjusted financials, and 25-year cumulative savings. The numbers below are from actual installer proposals, not marketing math.

How These Are Built

Real Proposals. Real Production Data. Real Math.

Every case study below is based on an actual installer proposal from an NS solar project. Production figures come from NRCan satellite modelling for the specific address. NS Power rate projections use the current 18.187¢/kWh Domestic Service Tariff (January 2026) with the approved 3.8% increase for 2026 and 4.1% for 2027, then a conservative 3.5% annual escalator thereafter based on the prior 20-year trajectory.

We strip out anything that no longer applies (the SolarHomes rebate and federal Greener Homes programs all closed in 2024 and 2025). What remains, and what these case studies model, is the realistic 2026 economics of solar in NS using NS Power net metering and municipal PACE financing.

What the Cards Show

  • System size: Actual kW installed, panel count, equipment specs
  • Annual production: kWh per year, modelled from NRCan data for the property
  • Lifetime electricity costs WITHOUT solar: 25-year cumulative NSP spend at projected rate inflation
  • Lifetime cost WITH solar: System cost plus minor residual NSP bills for 25 years
  • Net lifetime savings: The difference, plus the implicit hedge against further rate hikes

What Drives the Math

Three Variables That Move Your Numbers

Roof Orientation & Shading

South-facing roofs produce 1,100 to 1,200 kWh/kW annually in NS. East/west reduces output by 10 to 20%. Heavy shading reduces it more. We use satellite shading analysis to set realistic expectations.

📊

Your Current NS Power Bill

The higher your current bill, the faster solar pays back. Heat pump households at $300+/mo see strong economics. $100/mo bills see slower payback but still net positive over 25 years.

🏠

Your Municipality's PACE Terms

Halifax Solar City at 4.75% is the lowest published rate. Other municipalities run 5 to 6%. The difference matters over 10 years of financing.
